Nothing like a nice braai!

If there is something South Africans really love doing, it is having a really good braai (BBQ)!

Here in the Cape, a braai is only complete if you have tomato, cheese & onion sandwiches toasted on the grid accompanying your meat and salads. Mmmm, yummy!

In the Gauteng area, they love to have 'stywe pap en wors' (maize porridge made really stiff and sausage). Then they serve it with stir-fried tomato & onion on top of the porridge. Not bad I must tell you.

Apart from all the negative stuff in our country, this is one of the great things about South Africa.

What is going on in the world people? Everywhere you look and read, it's just wars everywhere, natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods! This surely must be signs of our times. Especially with everything going on in the Middle-East.

Just look at all the violence in the world, how it has escalated. Even here in our country, South Africa, it is absolutely shocking how brutal the murders are, torturing people before killing them! The drug abuse is just as bad! The youth in our country do such terrible things. The new craze going round is torturing animals and capturing it on their cellphones. Then I haven't even mentioned the 'fight club' craze going on in schools! Beating each other till the blood runs and capturing it on their cellphones! The youth also have no respect for anyone, not even their parents! They are the leaders of tomorrow! God help us with that!

I am sure the end of our world is slowly but surely drawing near.

A day in the life of a cat

For a long time now, everyday till mid afternoon, there is a little bird sitting on our window frame. The little bird chatters along, but little does he know who is eyeing him from behind the curtain! Yep, Scarlett!! When he gets bored with eyeing the bird, it's off to the backyard to go bask in the sun. Then he's in for some yummy cat food and a sip of water and a hug and some grooming from his mom (that's me) and then it's off again, to enjoy the rest of the day in the sun! What a life! A cat's life! The best life!

First the Electricity, now the Gas!!

Now I've heard it all! First we had an electricity supply problem. Read my posts below. They told everyone to swop their electric stoves, heaters etc. for gas equipment. We listened and what do I read in the paper yesterday morning...lo' and behold...the gas is in short supply!! What is going on in this country?!

This is my darling cat, Scarlett. He is not a she, ha, ha!

When we went to the animal shelter to adopt a kitten, the worker there told us that he thinks the cat was a she, 'cause he could not see any ..er, well, you know!

We named the cat Scarlett, thinking it was a she only to later discover that it was a he. The cat already got used to his name, so it was too late to change it to a more 'manly' name. ;-)

The funny side

Here is a little tidbit to make you laugh.

Since the end of last year, the country has been suffering under power cuts. The company that supplies electricity has been having problems with one of their reactors at their nuclear power plant. Till this day we still don't know what caused it, because they have been feeding the media such a bunch of lies.

Now, to save power, we have been undergoing regular intervals of power load shedding in different areas. What really had me in stitches, was when they started telling us via the newspapers the following:" Please turn off the power, so that the power can stay on."

Now, if that does not crack you up, nothing will!!

The police are there to protect you, right?

A while ago there was a big heist at one of our airports, where about R100 million rand was stolen.

The police recovered some of the money and it was locked away in one of their safes. Now someone has stolen it from their safe (about R10 million)! They used an angle grinder and with all that noise, nobody heard them. It is speculated that it was an inside job.

Cash in transit heists are also a very common thing here in South Africa. Hijacking as well.
