The clever British, can this be?

According to a recent survey, many Brits believe that Winston Churchill is a myth, but they believe that Sherlock Holmes really existed. 23% of the people who took part in the survey, believe that Churchill and Florence Nightingale are fictional characters. Other people who are thought to be fictional characters, by the Brits who took part, are Mahatma Gandhi and the Duke of Wellington, who conquered Napoleon's forces in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. 58% of the Brits believe that Sherlock Holmes really existed and 33% believe that the fictional pilot, Biggles, of W E Johns, really lived.
