Nothing like a nice braai!

If there is something South Africans really love doing, it is having a really good braai (BBQ)!

Here in the Cape, a braai is only complete if you have tomato, cheese & onion sandwiches toasted on the grid accompanying your meat and salads. Mmmm, yummy!

In the Gauteng area, they love to have 'stywe pap en wors' (maize porridge made really stiff and sausage). Then they serve it with stir-fried tomato & onion on top of the porridge. Not bad I must tell you.

Apart from all the negative stuff in our country, this is one of the great things about South Africa.

indeed, nothing like a good BBQ party. I enjoy a good charcoal grilled dish, (meat or vegetable), but I really like to smoke meats over a very low fire for hours on end. is that also a local custom?

Yes, anonymous, we smoke meats as well, but I haven't tried it yet.

use some aged hickory wood for the smoke, you won't regret it
